5-Second Reset Between Songs!
Singers often underestimate how quickly tension can build. Your neck, jaw, shoulders, and even your diaphragm can tighten without you noticing — and that tension sneaks into your sound. That’s why a 5-second vocal reset can make a huge difference between a fresh performance and a strained one.
Here’s how to do it:
Release Your Jaw — Let your jaw drop slightly, keeping lips soft. Hum a gentle “ng” to feel the vibration in the front of your face.
Relax Your Shoulders — Inhale deeply, then let your shoulders drop on the exhale. Feel the weight release down your back.
Open Your Rib Cage — Place hands lightly on your sides. Breathe into the ribs, expanding sideways and back.
Micro-Stretch Your Neck — Tilt your head gently from side to side, keeping your throat open. Avoid forcing, focusing on letting the head be heavy.
Reset Your Breath — Take one smooth inhale and exhale before the next phrase. Even one intentional breath can improve tone, support, and phrasing.
This simple routine only takes 5–10 seconds, but it trains your body to reset naturally between lines or songs. Over time, your voice stays lighter, more resonant, and expressive, even in long rehearsals or performances.
If you'd like to go beast mode with this one, run through an entire song by singing one phrase, stopping, doing this reset, and then getting a fresh inhale for the next phrase.
Happy practicing!
